Regroupement de Lachine

Focus on the environment

GRAME is one of the founding members of the Regroupement de Lachine, where its offices, the Lachine Éco-quartier and Le Coin Tournant are located.

This green building is home to organizations that support a wide range of communities, offering services in the areas of reception, employability, daycare, economic and sustainable development.

Green roofing

Since the spring of 2013, the Regroupement has owned one of the largest green roofs accessible to all on which to practice urban agriculture in Quebec.

Most of the planted vegetation consists of species native to Quebec, some of which are threatened.

This vegetated surface allows :

  • Combat heat islands;
  • Increase biodiversity;
  • Reduce the amount of water discharged into the sewer system.

The Regroupement de Lachine’s green roof is available for your networking or team-building activities. This space includes :

  • Three different gardens;
  • A terrace for up to 50 people;
  • A gazebo;
  • A BBQ.

You can also include a guided tour in your activity.

Green walls

A portion of the sidewalk on 7ᵉ avenue has been removed to be replaced by vegetation.

This project aims to promote three aspects:

  • Combating urban heat islands;
  • Making urban agriculture accessible;
  • Optimizing green building.

Did you know that?

Adding vegetation to buildings increases their energy efficiency by insulating them against heat and cold.

Cool island

The Îlot de fraîcheur à Lachine project brings together the efforts of the Borough of Lachine, the Comité de revitalisation urbaine intégrée de Saint-Pierre (CRUISP) and the Regroupement de Lachine to combat heat islands.

The Regroupement building specifically combats heat islands with its white and green roof.

Other installations help optimize the Regroupement’s cooling island, including :

  • Increased vegetation;
  • Increased shading to protect against UV rays;
  • Reducing the heat emitted by the air-conditioning system;
  • Reducing anthropogenic heat.

Geothermal

The Regroupement de Lachine has also installed a geothermal system that takes advantage of the constant temperature of the earth’s subsoil to heat and cool the building’s air.

This system provides :

  • A single system that heats and cools;
  • Lower heating and cooling costs;
  • The use of a renewable energy source;
  • A sustainable system that will operate for at least 50 years.
