The VIVRE project, for Ville inclusive, verte, résiliente et équitable, is a new GRAME initiative. Its aim is to develop a participatory greening and planning approach that will improve living environments and reduce the effects of heat islands. of heat islands on vulnerable populations, by creating islands of coolness.
In cities, highly mineralized environments are more prone to heat islands and flooding. Trees and green and natural spaces are natural solutions for creating islands of coolness by providing shade and cooling the ambient air. They also reduce the risk of flooding by reducing runoff during heavy rains. Unfortunately, not everyone lives close to trees or green spaces and therefore has access to these benefits. In Montreal, the people who have the most difficulty adapting to increasingly frequent episodes of heat waves or heavy rain are also those with the least access to green spaces. The VIVRE project seeks to address these inequalities through participatory greening interventions in more disadvantaged environments.
